Ntando Cele
Cypher Session
The 30-year old performer and acclaimed spoken word artist Ntando Cele represents the young and vital generation of South African artists that is following in the footsteps of choreographers such as Robyn Orlin and Boyzie Cekwana (see pages 6 and 27) in order to claim their own unique position in the performing arts. In her expressive solos, composed of language, music and movement, she questions her identity and future as a black artist and woman. Studying at the renowned theatre academy DasArts in Amsterdam for two years has given her work a new spin. At the festival she premieres «Cypher Session», a solo inspired by the songlines of Aborigines. (esc)
