Niwagekidan Penino
Frustrating Picture Book For Adults
Nominated for the ZKB Patronage Prize
«I started out as a complete amateur.» When Kuro Tanino, a psychiatry student at the time, founded the Niwagekidan Penino theatre company with fellow students in 2000, he hadn’t a clue about theatre. Since then, his artful and unrestrained approach to conventional theatre and his bizarre and impressive spatial creations have made him the star of Tokyo’s theatre avant-garde. «Frustrating Picture Book For Adults» is an unsettling piece about the fantasies and nightmares of a student preparing for his final exams. The characters, actions and dialogues seem to emerge directly from the subconscious of the young man. (esc)
