An outstanding text and an exceptional performer – that’s all you need in order to make great theatre. «Mission», directed by Raven Ru.ll, has caused quite a stir in predominantly catholic Belgium. The actor Bruno Vanden Broecke ravishingly interprets this touching, emotional, intelligent monologue, which the Flemish writer and historian David Van Reybrouck has condensed from dozens of interviews with missionaries in the Congo. Hardly ever have the contradictions of Christian missionary work, the inner conflict of a man caught between two cultures or the ambivalence between vocation and doubt been described so impressively.
