The 37-year-old director Toshiki Okada and his company chelfitsch (a childlike corruption of the word «selfish») have recently attracted the attention of European audiences. Their witty and cool creations analyse with razorsharp precision the contemporary Japan’s social diseases. «Hot Pepper, Air Conditioner, and the Farewell Speech» looks at the growing pressures of the job market and is an excellent example of Okada’s highly complex artistic vision, which combines dance and theatre in a unique way.
